

Oliver Harris Doss, Sr. died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Deborah King. A World War II Veteran, he joined the Navy in December of 1941 shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Assigned to the USS Luna, a liberty ship, he saw action in the South Pacific. Married to the late Lillian Mozelle McTeer Doss, Mr. Doss returned to Brunswick, Georgia after the war. A 45 year veteran of the Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company, he often reminded his grandchildren that he was never late, not a single date, to work. He enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit his children in Germany several times, as well as their homes throughout the United States. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his children and visiting with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren, including Oliver Harris Doss, IV. He is survived by his son, Oliver Harris Doss, Jr. (Lynn) of Blue Ridge, Georgia; daughters Alice Doss (Irv) LaFleur of Cumming, Georgia; Pamela Deborah (Barney) King of Nahunta and Stephanie Michelle Doss of Darien. Grandchildren: Oliver Harris Doss (Pam), III & (3 great grandchildren), North Augusta, South Carolina; Sarah Alice Doss, Augusta, Georgia; Max Albert Doss, Atlanta, Georgia; Lillian Belle Doss, Athens, Georgia; Philip Leland Frank Doss, Blue Ridge, Georgia; Evelyn Florence Doss, Blue Ridge, Georgia; Thomas Adam LaFleur, Cumming, Georgia; Michael Doss LaFleur, Cumming, Georgia; Charles Michael Clair, Los Crusces, New Mexico (1 son); Amanda Lee Lanford ,(Chuck) Brunswick, Georgia (3 sons); Alexis Neil Morgan Warner, Nahunta, Georgia; Justin Lee Woodcock of Brunswick Georgia; sister Alva Doss McKay, Brunswick, Georgia, a niece and two nephews. A member of First United Methodist Church Brunswick, Georgia, a graveside service, with military honors was held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia, Georgia, with the Rev. Glenn Ethridge, Senior Minister, Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, officiating, with the Navy Hymn being played on flute by granddaughter, Belle Doss. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make donations in memory of Mr. Doss to the Snack –in-a-Backpack program via the Craddock Center, P O Box 69, Cherry Log, Georgia 30522.
