Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in the presence of her beloved family. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Judge A. Blenn Taylor Jr.
Pat, born November 14, 1939, in Fayetteville, NC, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Alton James West of Fayetteville, NC, and a graduate of Fayetteville High School Class of 1958.
She was best known for her success and enthusiasm in business. While residing on Jekyll Island,
GA, for many years, she was the owner of numerous gift shops within the island’s hotels, one in
the Jekyll Island Historic District and another in Kissimmee, FL. After moving to St. Simons
Island, GA, Pat enjoyed interior design and thrived on helping others create lifetime memories
by making their homes a welcoming gathering place for family and friends.
Pat was someone who brought many folks together with her unconditional loving spirit and
non-judgmental attitude to all, exemplified by her leadership of the weekly “Foxy Tuesday”
group. Her “Foxy” friends’ love and support always kept her energized. She was also a
community volunteer serving as President of the Brunswick Junior Womens Club of Brunswick,
GA, on numerous PTA boards and in other community organizations.
Pat is survived by her three children Kim Taylor and special friend Jeff Mericle, Mike Taylor and
wife Loslyn, all of St. Simons Island, and Wendi Simpson and husband Frank of Gainesville, GA.;
three grandsons, Taylor Carter Welch of St. Simons Island, and Michael Nevet Simpson and
Samuel Blenn Simpson of Gainesville, GA; two sisters, Glenda West Slaughter of The
Woodlands, TX, and Cathy West Autry of Stedman, NC. She was preceded in death by her
brother Alton James West Jr.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday, March 5, 2018, at 4:30 pm at Strickland
Auditorium, Epworth by the Sea on St Simons Island. The Rev. Bill Ligon of Christian Renewal
Church of Brunswick will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Brown, David Butler, Johnny Capes, Ryker Carter, Dr. Ted Farmer,
Jason Foskey, Adam Hall, Wayne Huntley, Drummond Spence and Dr. Derryl Thomas.
The family will be receiving friends under the oaks outside Strickland Auditorium immediately
following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Pat
Taylor Fund ℅ Christian Renewal Church of Brunswick, 4265 Norwich St. Ext, Brunswick, GA
31520. The donations will be given to the long term addiction residential fund, an organization Mama T has supported for many years.
