She was born June 7th, 1933 in Gorton, England, the only child of Doris May (Millward) and Leonard Simpson. Her family moved to Urmston, Manchester before World War Il. The war really shaped her childhood, either from the impact of air raids but also rationing, right through her graduation from Stretford High School where she was popularly known by close friends as "Polly".
She was a trainee fashion buyer, but still in her teens, couldn't wait to leave her life in Manchester behind and married young. Pauline spent 55 years as a US military spouse and their deployments took them all over the world to England, Germany, Scotland, Iceland and Italy as well as several tours of duty all over the United States. During her years as an Air Force wife her love of all dance through her childhood and teenage years, led to her participation in floor shows for soldiers and their families. She had several clerical and civil service jobs at various duty stations in addition to later serving the Navy devoting over 6000 hours of financial counseling to sailors and their families through her affiliation with the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.
An avid reader, Pauline also enjoyed playing Mahjong, cross stitch and quilting, following the Georgia Bulldogs and completing hundreds of puzzles until the last few years of her life. Those who knew Pauline best have commented the most on her witty comments and "wicked" sense of humor. True to her British heritage, there were few problems in her life that couldn't be resolved by a favorite cuppa English tea, Yorkshire Gold to be exact. Upon her last move to Addington Place, staff soon gave Pauline the moniker "Ms. Boss", for obvious reasons...
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Doris Simpson, her first husband, William Kenneth Essig and second husband, Rolland Gary Bosserdet. She was also predeceased by her son, Mark William Essig and close friend of over 50 years, Terry Doster. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Waters and Dawn (Hal) Hart and Mark's wife, Alissa Essig. Surviving grandchildren include Emma and Jonathon (Connie) Waters, Susannah (Casey) Branson, Keadin Waters, Henry (Anna), Christopher (Michelle) and William Hart, and Chloe Essig. She is also survived by her stepdaughters Tammy Weishoff (Allen) and Babette (Kevin) Hakala and their children David Lange, Brandon (Megan) and Kaylee (Kendall) Hakala. She is also survived by her great grandchildren,
Hadley Hart, Katherine Hanna, Asher Branson, Henry Hart V, Benjamin Branson, Marguerite and Eleanor Hart. Pauline is also survived by her cousins Susan (Millward) Staniforth and Judith
(Millward) Johnson of Lancashire England as well as valued life-long friend, Joan Emmett of Isle of Man. Also surviving, her "partner in crime" and best friend at Addington Place — Joe Henderson.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 17th at 2pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Brunswick, Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in her honor to St Mark's Episcopal Church, whose warm embrace and spiritual care offered her so much comfort in her final years or to the charity of the donor's choice.
