Joyce graduated from Glynn Academy in the class of 1949, the same year she married the love of her life, Terry O’Neil Newman. The pair remained in Brunswick, where they became active members of Blythe Island Baptist Church.
Joyce taught Sunday School, did work for the Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, and adopted many volunteer positions over the years. She also worked as a secretary for Glynn County at the Adult Education Center, where she retired.
Joyce found pleasure in traveling, both abroad and across the United States. She enjoyed going out to eat with her ‘49ers group. She loved being a wife and mother, and delighted in nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry O’Neal Newman; a daughter, Terry Lynn Clements; a granddaughter, Laura Clements Lemieux; and siblings, Merritt Lovett (Helen) and Lavora Bunker.
Joyce was survived by her daughter, Carla Pace; grandchildren, Tracey Glass (Billy) and Michael Clements; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Glass, Emma Lemieux, and Marcus Clements; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Blythe Island Baptist Church on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:00, followed immediately by a funeral service officiated by Reverend Tim Brown. Interment will take place in Palmetto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the Blythe Island Baptist Building Fund.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is honored to have assisted the Newman family.
