She was born in New York City on September 7, 1922, to Axel Victor Johnson and Anna Margaret Wren. Formerly of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, Peg became a resident of Athens, GA, in 1959. Peg was a devoted University of Georgia football fan (Go Dawgs!) and was actively involved in university life as the spouse of Dr. James A. Christian, former Food Science professor and Dept. Chair at the University of Georgia. She dearly loved her family and took so much pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peg was an avid bird watcher and, alongside her husband, enjoyed being a worldwide traveler, exploring locales from Africa to Antarctica. She was a member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens, GA, where she enjoyed many friendships since November 1960.
Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dr. James A. Christian, as well as her sister Thelma J. Wickenheiser of Ephrata, Pennsylvania. She is survived by sister Doris V. Herr (Robert) of Gloucester, Virginia; one son, Dr. Sam A. Christian (Penny) of Jacksonville Beach, FL; twin daughters Eileen C. Hughes (Dr. Greg Hughes) of Naples, FL, and Ellen C. Huth (Alan) of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren Blair and Amanda Christian, Geoffrey, Jeremy, and Caitlin Hughes, Amy Zolkowski, Brian Huth, and Megan Stehr, and 11 great-grandchildren.
