Reatha Phillips Lane passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isles on Sunday, March 18, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born February 17, 1930, in Wayne County, Georgia, and was the fifth child of Lilliot Lanier Phillips and Adell Burns Phillips.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Bradford Shamel Phillips, Delton Astor Phillips, Alza Lanier Phillips, Nelvin Linnell Phillips; and sisters Lavania Phillips Brooks and Lurlyne Phillips McRae Yount. Reatha Phillips married Earl Stephen Lane, Sr. on September 27, 1946. They were married for almost fifty-eight years at the time of Earl’s passing on August 10, 2004. She is survived by three children, Andrea Meyers (Frank), Elizabeth Lane, Stephen Lane (Lori); one grandson, Caleb Lane; five granddaughters, Ruth Brown (J.T.), Alexis Wilson (Matthew), Teresa Lairsey (Kevin), Karen DeVore, Stacie Musgrove (Jeremy); and 10 great grandchildren.
Reatha Lane’s many decades of Christian service as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher impacted many young people to know more about Jesus and to become Christians. She loved all children and had weekly Bible studies for neighborhood children, many of whom came to know The Lord through her ministry. The neighborhood children called her weekly bible studies, “Mrs. Lane’s Bible Study Party.” She loved to plan social gatherings, and over the years baked hundreds of birthday cakes for friends and family. She used her homemade bread as a ministry outreach to people in this community and around the country. She spent countless hours providing compassionate service for the sick, infirm and hurting in this world. She was a longtime member of the Brunswick First Church of the Nazarene and current member of Golden Isles Baptist Church.
The family is grateful to the staff of Hospice of the Golden Isles for the gentle, sympathetic and loving care provided to their mother and grandmother during the illness.
