Norman Rhett Sexton, of Brunswick, GA, passed away on August 11, 2024, at Southeast Georgia Health System. He was a resident of Glynn County for 35 years, but spent his childhood in Panama City, FLA.
He is survived by his wife, Jude Sexton, two sons, Josh and Beau Sexton, of Brunswick, GA. Two grandchildren, Nash and Keegan Sexton.
His father and mother, Norman Clyde and Burnell Purvis Sexton, preceded Rhett in death.
Rhett was born in Bessmer, AL on June 22, 1955, to Norman Clyde and Burnell Purvis Sexton. He was a dedicated member of Bay Harbor Church of God, sang in the church choir, and played the guitar.
After graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Richmond K. Turner. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and moved to Louisiana, where he worked in the oil fields. He eventually moved to Brunswick, GA and started his fire service career. He accomplished and excelled in areas of special training for the fire department. During this time, he became a member of the Georgia Smoke Divers who are considered the elite of fire fighters. He received many commendations throughout his career of 28 years. He loved playing his guitar and telling jokes, but his grandkids had his heart.
There will be a visitation at Bay Harbor Church of God, 3210 US 82, Brunswick, GA. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 and a memorial service to follow at 12:00 noon with Military Honors.
