A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Tim McKeown officiating.
Richard was born on September 14, 1961 to the late Marion Lloyd and Marilyn Ann Bunkley in Brunswick, Georgia. He was a proud member of the 1979 graduating class of Brunswick High School. After thirteen years of employment with Brunswick Pulp and Paper he started his own business as the owner and operator of R.L. Bunkley Enterprises in 1990. In 1987 he married the love of his life, Susan. Richard and Susan shared a lifetime of love and memories with their two children, Brittany and Ricky. From years of RV camping trips, tailgating for the Georgia Bulldog games, classic rock concerts, traveling baseball games for his son, and many ski trips, Richard lived life to the fullest and never passed up an opportunity to make a memory. He and his crew of wild hogs rode cross country on their Harleys for several memorable trips of a lifetime. He was an avid golfer and spent many Wednesdays playing in the BCC points game, but his most memorable golf game was played at the old course at Saint Andrews in Scotland. However, being a Papa to his grandson Ryder was what Richard lived for and was the highlight of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Susan Bunkley, two children Brittany Bunkley (Ryan Putala), and Ricky Bunkley (Keely), a grandson, Ryder Bunkley, and a forthcoming granddaughter, Sadie Putala, two sisters, Kellie Cochran (Mike) and Vickie Miller (Randy) all of Brunswick. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Honorary pallbearers are Keith Campbell, Mike Whitehead, Walter Rafolski, Arthur Leotis, Scott Dyer, and Eric Richards.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, January 12, 2022 from 10 am until the funeral hour at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made in Richard’s honor to the Hospice of the Golden Isles or St. Francis Xavier Catholic School building fund. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
