

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Joyce (Delaney) Davies of St. Simons Island, GA; daughter, Stephanie Davies Martin (Jake) of Baltimore, MD; grandson, Maxwell Richard Martin of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Lucille Delaney Martin of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Robert Davies of Albuquerque, NM and Steven Davies (Kathleen) of Billings, MT; sister, Elizabeth Davies Fisher (Robert) of Appleton, WI; brothers-in-law, Ronald Delaney (Brenda) of Laramie, WY and Wesley Delaney (Twila) of Polson, MT. Many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends around the country also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Oren “Duff” and Donna and his sister Deborah.
He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 3, 1947. Raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he graduated from Central High School in 1966. He then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, from which he received a BSBA with emphasis in Accounting in 1970. At USD he was active in the Delta Tau Delta social fraternity and the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He was later honored by the University as a Distinguished Alumnus. After graduation, he joined Arthur Young & Co. in Denver, Colorado becoming a Certified Public Accountant. In 1979, he joined American Television and Communications Corporation, which later became Time Warner Cable. In 1992, he moved to Wilton, Connecticut with Time Warner Cable, retiring in 2006 as Senior Vice President of Business Development. Rick was instrumental in the development of Road Runner, the first cable delivered high-speed internet service, which led to the development of the Broadband internet business. Today this is one of the most critical components of Time Warner Cable. He was on the Board of Directors of TW Telecom, a subsidiary of Time Warner Cable.
In 2006, Rick and Joyce retired to St. Simons Island where they enjoyed numerous interests with their many friends. For the past three years Rick was Captain of the Sea Island Golf Team that participated in the annual Oglethorpe Cup. He was Past President of the Sea Island Senior Golf Association and Past President of the Island Club Homeowner’s Board. Family always came first for Rick. He rarely missed any family events or Stephanie’s many extracurricular activities, especially swimming and golf. He was a doting grandfather to Max and Lucy, who were the light of his life. He kept the entire extended family connected. Rick’s other passion in life was golf. He started golfing at the age of 12 under the guidance of his grandfather, Bruce Johnston. He enjoyed his many golf partners and rounds of golf at Sea Island and on his many golf travels around the world with friends and business partners. He was extremely proud of his three holes-in-one. He loved history, traveling the world with Joyce, and fishing, especially with his grandson Max. Rick became a proud Denver Bronco season ticket holder in 1970.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held Monday, August 1 at 11:00 AM in the St. Simons Presbyterian Church on Kings Way, St. Simons Island. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in the Terrace Room at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club.
