Richard Louis Lemke, known affectionately as “Dick” to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Louise Lemke.
Dick is survived by his son Matt and daughter-in-law Beth, and their daughters Abigail and Julia; his son Eric and daughter-in-law Sue, and their children Devon, Maleita, and Maeve.
Born and raised in Latimer, Iowa, Dick proudly served in the United States Air Force. He went on to earn his degree from Central Missouri University and began a distinguished career in law enforcement with the Independence, Missouri Police Department. He later joined the United States Secret Service, where he served with honor in numerous roles, ultimately retiring as the Special Agent in Charge of the protective detail for former President George W. Bush.
A man of many passions, Dick was an accomplished wood duck decoy carver, earning a first-place award in an East Coast competition. He had a deep love for animals and actively supported rescues and shelters. He enjoyed watching car races, baseball, and golf, and was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Redskins.
Dick and Carol were long-time members of the Lutheran Church in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and later became members of Wesley Church after moving to St. Simons Island. His interment will take place in a private family ceremony alongside Carol at Wesley Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the ASPCA or the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, two causes that were dear to Dick’s heart.
