Robert “Bobby” S. Sports Jr., 78, of Brunswick, GA passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022. Bobby, was born in Waycross, Georgia the son of the late Robert S. Sports Sr. and the late Dorothy Sports. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Myrtle Sports: a daughter, Cathy Sports; and two sisters, Anna Marie Johnston and Frances Sports.
Bobby was a 1962 graduate of Waycross High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. He had a successful career with the Georgia State Patrol as a License Examiner and retired after 33 years of dedicated employment. He enjoyed a 2nd career for 35 years in security with The Sea Island Company in the later years patrolling Altama Plantation. He served on the Okefenokee REMC Board of Directors and was an active member of Glyndale Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, sitting on the St. Simons Pier with his wife Linda, and trips to the beach with his family. He will be remembered as a kind hearted man. He valued God, Family, and service to others. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Bobby’s memories are his daughters, Connie Croft (Eric), Rhonda Terry (Donald); grandchildren, Tyler Croft (Devan Hagler), Donald Terry III (Brittany), and Katie Beattie (Chris); and a great granddaughter, Everleigh Terry, Brother, Frank Sports (Sandra), Sister, Reda Sports and Brother-in-law Warren Johnston.
The family will receive friends between 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Bobby’s life will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Creekmore officiating. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery (5000 Brunswick Hwy. Waycross, GA). Serving pallbearers are Tyler Croft, Donald Terry III, Danny Jones, Chris Johnston, Sam Sports, and Taylor Sports. Honorary pallbearers will be retired and current officers of the Georgia State Patrol.
