South Georgia Medical Center. He was born to the union of James Walter
Cork and Lila Mitchell Cork in Central, South Carolina on October 27, 1927.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Anne Ward Cork, on
November 3, 2013, and by his son, Robert Lander Cork, Jr. on March 18, 1996.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict after he
earned his Undergraduate and Law Degrees from the University of Georgia.
He was admitted to practice law in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, and
was actively engaged in the private practice of law for more than 62 years. He
was a member of St. John the Baptist Lodge #184, F.&A.M., Malta Commandery
of Knights Templar, the Shrine at Hasan Temple, York Rite Temple in Macon,
Georgia, the American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, Valdosta
Evening Lions Club, Lake Park Historical Society and First United
Methodist Church of Valdosta.
Robert is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Leah Cork Hopkins and L.
LeGrand Hopkins, Jr. of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and sons, Travis Walter Cork of
Ft. Knox, Kentucky and Patrick Carlyle Cork of Valdosta; grandchildren,
Catherine Anne Hopkins of San Francisco, California, L. LeGrand Hopkins, III, of
St. Simons Island, Georgia and Sophia Catherine-Anne Cork of Valdosta;
great-granddaughter, Melanie Grace Hopkins of St. Simons Island, Georgia. He is
also survived by a sister, Mary Francis Hoffner of Silver Springs, Maryland
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 19, 2013
in Palmetto Cemetery, Brunswick, Georgia with the Rev. Charles Adams
officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to
