Robert 'Rebel' Marshall Doud-Williams, age 80, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Rebel was born January 7, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia but was raised in East Tennessee.
Rebel was the eldest of four children, with two younger brothers Garry (deceased), Tom, and a sister, Betty Paige. The family moved frequently, never starting or finishing the school year in the same school until high school.
After high school Rebel briefly entered college before quitting to continue his travels and adventures by joining the United States Air Force where he flew over 78 combat missions in B52's. Over the next 20 years, his job titles would include Navigator, Intelligence Officer, Executive Officer, Information Officer, Inspection and Standardization Officer, Bombardier, Mental Health Technician, Services Specialist, Squadron Administrative Officer, Base Administration Officer, Headquarters Squadron Commander, Target Intelligence Chief, and Instructor. After a full career, he retired in 1983. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Rebel worked for the US Department of Treasury at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as a Contract Specialist until his second retirement in 2003. In his spare time through night and weekend classes he completed college and obtained five degrees (AA, BS, BA, MSSM, and MSM) and has worked on two others (an MA in Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology) over the years.
Rebel was a wealth of knowledge on almost any subject. Anyone who ever sought his council knows he was always willing to lend a hand but never boastful or condescending to anyone he met. Rebel loved to share stories about the past and more than anything learn about the universe around him. Rebel loved to travel the world and visit museums and book stores to add to his personal collection of over 6000 volumes. He was a voracious reader especially of fiction and non-fiction, particularly historical works. Rebel loved to share books with other people and would offer to share his new finds with friends or family he thought would enjoy them. He was also a volunteer at the Marshes of Glynn Library. Rebel was an avid collector of worldwide stamps, a hobby that started at the age of 11. He loved to find beauty in the details. Rebel was all of these things but above all, Robert Doud-Williams was a family man. He loved Glenda. He loved his family. He loved simplicity, there didn't have to be a big production. He loved spending time surrounded by those he loved most and hearing the laughter of his family. He was a treasured family member. He will be missed deeply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Kent Doud, and a brother, Garry Lloyd Doud. Rebel is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Glenda Doud-Williams; a son, Tracy Scott Doud (Suzy), eight grandchildren, Koah McKinley Doud, twins Elijah Quinn Doud and Tesslyn Kent Doud, Christopher Doud, Catherine Doud, Robert Doud, and Rebekkah Doud; a brother Thomas Emory Doud; a sister, Betty Paige Trinkle (Don); two stepsons, Shane Pleasant Young (Erin) and Dustin Kyle Young (Kelly) four step-grand-children Elizabeth Young, Hayden Young, Sydney Young, and Hayden Chapman; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate Rebel's life and military career will be held on February 5th at 2pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
