Robert William Roth, 79, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, passed away on August 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born on June 7, 1945, in Janesville, Wisconsin, Bob was the second of nine children born to Marvin and Betty Roth. From his early days in Janesville, where he graduated high school in 1963, to his distinguished career with General Motors, Bob’s life was a tapestry of hard work, love, and unwavering dedication.
After high school. Bob went on to earn his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the General Motors Institute. He then built a stellar career with GM, with stops in Janesville, Fort Wayne, IN and Dayton, OH, eventually retiring as the esteemed plant manager of the GM Truck Assembly Plant in Dayton in 2001, at the age of 56. But Bob’s professional success paled in comparison to the love story he lived with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Scheribel. Married in 1966, Bob and Barbara’s love was the stuff of legend—an unbreakable bond that only deepened over the years. Together they built a family, played countless rounds of golf, and enjoyed their oceanfront happy hours. Their love story was interrupted by Barbara’s sudden passing in 2022, but today, their spirits are joyfully reunited.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, and his brother, Richard. His legacy continues through his children, Jeff (Linda) Roth of Dayton, OH, and Jennifer (Troy) Augustine of Centerville, OH, and his adored grandchildren Alexandria (Adam) Hartfelder, Benjamin (Miranda) Roth, Jack Augustine, and William Augustine. He leaves behind a loving family, including his siblings Judy (Ken) Nelson, Tom (Sharon) Roth, Jim Roth, Beth (Brad) Gough, Chuck (Luann) Roth, Tim (Jayme) Roth, and Steve (Lynnie) Roth, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves life long best friends brother and sister in law Terry and Jan (Scheribel) Keele. His sweet dog, Sally, who was his constant companion in his final years, will miss him dearly. Bob had an amazing group of friends on the island who supported him tremendously in his grief after Barb’s passing – you are so appreciated!
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Antonio Moran, Kayde Moore, and the entire team at Georgia Oncology and Hematology Consultants, who gave Bob hope and friendship when he needed it most. A celebration of Bob’s remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warriors Project, causes close to Bob’s heart.
