Robert E. Stein

Robert E. Stein, 87, of St. Simons Island, formerly of Washington, DC, departed this life Friday, August 21, 2015 at his residence on St. Simons. A celebration of life service will be held at 11AM Tuesday, August 28, 2015 at St. Simons Island Community Church with Rev. David Yarborough officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Mary’s, Georgia.

Born June 20, 1928 in Washington, DC, to the late Ben and Ada W. Stein, he was a 2Nd Lt. in the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Stein was also a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, Wharton Business School where he obtained a BS. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Stein became a builder and developer in the Washington, DC area. He also served as a former President of Woodmont Country Club. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, and traveling. He attended St. Simons Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dean C. Stein.

Survivors include his two children, Douglas Stein of Washington, DC, and Deborah Kennedy of Fernandina Beach, FL, three grandchildren, Jonathan Stein, Alexander Stein, and Leila Kennedy Baldwin and husband Benjamin, as well was three great grandchildren, Annalise Braddock Kennedy, Estie Baldwin, and Alta Baldwin.
