

Mac was born in Savannah, GA, on April 24, 1937, the son of the late Wilbur Roy McElwaney and the late Mary Ginn McElwaney. He had been a resident of Brunswick since 1970. He was a member of Bay Harbour Church of God.
Mac was a graduate from Carlisle Military School in Bamberg, SC, joined the Navy and served his country with honor and retired from the United States Navy posted at Seattle, WA, Jacksonville, FL, Key West, FL (where he met Jan), London, England, Washington D.C., Guam, and last duty station at NAS Glynco, Brunswick, GA. He furthered his education, using his GI Bill, at Brunswick Junior College, earning two associate degrees, Science and Applied Science. Mac then retired from High Performance Tube (HPT) after 27 years of employment. He was active in the Coastal Georgia Airstream Club, Unit #37. Mac was also very active at Glynn County Parks and Recreation, coaching one set of girl softball players from the time they were 9 years old until they were adults, leading them twice to Georgia State Finals. During this time, he also coached other sports and umpired/refereed all sports.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Roy and Mary Ginn McElwaney. He is survived by his wife, Jan McElwaney of Brunswick, GA; his daughter, Pam Davis (Sonny) of Waverly, GA; two sons, Ronnie G. McElwaney (Kathy) of Seattle, WA; and Trae A. McElwaney of Brunswick, GA. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Timothy J. Davis (TJ), Chase Fincher, Katelyn Davis, Sarah McElwaney, Cameron McElwaney, Steven Kearley, and Angelica (Angel) Kearley, in addition to several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Bay Harbour Church of God between the hours of 10am – 11am on Monday, March 13, 2017. A memorial service to honor Mac’s life will follow at 11am. Dr. John Harris will officiate the service, and a meal will be provided following the service by his Bay Harbour church family.
