

Gary graduated from Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia, in 1968 and went on to attend the University of Georgia, graduating in 1972. That same year, he married his beloved wife, Janice Cain McClure. They began their life together in Marietta, where Gary started his career with Ryder Systems and they welcomed their sons, Matthew and David.
In 1984, Gary and Janice moved to Columbus, Georgia, where they raised their family and lived until 2015. Following Gary’s retirement, they moved to Saint Simons Island, where they enjoyed many happy years together, surrounded by their “Island Family.”
Gary spent more than 30 years with Ryder, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends through his strong work ethic, keen intellect, and steadfast dedication to both his profession and his family. A lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan, he also enjoyed golf and reading. His warmth, wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor brought laughter and comfort to those around him.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice; his sons, Matthew (Meredith) and David (Sherry); his grandchildren, Sam, Jacob, Anna Lovett, and Adeline; and his brother, Michael McClure. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott Clemon McClure and Mary Helen Blocker, and his sister, Linda McClure Buran.
Gary’s life was defined by love, loyalty, hard work, and devotion to his family. He gave generously of himself, built lasting relationships, and left a meaningful impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will take place at 5:00 p.m. on September 16, 2026, at Village Creek Landing, 526 S. Herrington Road, Saint Simons Island, Georgia.
