Mrs. Sweeney's husband, Edward Sweeney, preceded her in death in 1986. Rose, a native of New York, is descended from the colonial Budd family. After graduating from high school, she immediately went to work for the Department of the Army during WWII at Hickam Army Air Base in Pearl Harbor, HI, traveling via troop train and troop ship. She worked at several 5-star hotels around the country, meeting her husband at The Greenbrier, before his career brought the family to The Cloister. Her daughter, Mary Jo Sweeney, is a retired Navy captain, as is her son-in-law, David Hoffman, of Annapolis, MD. She is also survived by her brothers Hugh and Robert, and sisters Frances, Jean, Joan and Margaret, and several generations of nieces, nephews and their families.
Rose will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends at a celebration of her life at 10 AM on Friday, the 8th of February, 2013, at St. William's Catholic Church on St. Simons, with Msgr. John Kenneally officiating.
