

He was born August 28, 1940 in Statesboro, Georgia the son of the late Otis and Evelyn Smith. He was the devoted husband to the late Jessie Marie Smith and has lived in Brunswick since 1970. He was a veteran and served his country with honors in the United States Army. He was also a Boilermaker and retired from Hercules. Later in life, Mr. Smith and his wife traveled Southeast Georgia as a vendor at various festivals. Mr. Smith was attending Bay Harbor Church of God.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Evelyn Smith; His loving wife, Jessie Marie Smith; a great granddaughter, Brianna Cothren; one brother, Raymond Smith. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Velie (Paul) of Hortense, GA and Deborah Howard (Allen) of Brunswick, GA; one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Smith (Sherri Mullis) of Brunswick, GA; and a brother, Charles Smith of Brunswick, GA. Mr. Smith was blessed to be survived by eight grandchildren Jason Velie, Amanda Velie Cothren, Hannah Velie Vinluan, Amber Stephens King, Lee Sessoms, Logan Smith, Landon Smith and Linzi Smith, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith love to spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sports. He enjoyed spending time coaching local little league football and baseball, helping his players develop their talents. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him and his family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Brunswick, Georgia. Reverend Raymond Willis will officiate the service. The interment will follow the service in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers serving during the service are Jason Velie, Lee Sessoms, Logan Smith, Landon Smith, Adam Cothren, and Mark Vinluan.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans Association or the American Heart Association.
