Roy Sylvania Poppell Sr.

Roy Sylvania Poppell, Sr., passed away Thursday morning the 15th of June 2017 at the age 83. He was born in Long County, Georgia, 10th of September 1933, son of the late Robert Lee and Rosa Bell Poppell.

Roy actively served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was commander of the VFW in Darien for many years and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty two and a half years Ruth Moye of Darien, GA; two daughters Deborah Williams (Bruce) of Tallahassee, FL and Jennifer Griffin (Robert) of Thomasville, GA and three sons Roy (Bubba) Poppell, Jr. (Dawn), Gary Poppell (Donna) and Wyatt Poppell (Cathy) all of Darien, GA, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

In addition he was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Poppell and grandson Lenny Tanner.

A memorial service is to be conducted with military honors, at 10 o’clock in the morning, Sunday, the 18th of June 2017, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave., Brunswick, Georgia, where Chaplin Pat McCord is to officiate.
