Roy Lee Spores Sr., 87, of Brunswick, went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2018. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 17th, at 2pm at Lighthouse Brunswick Church with Rev. David Hudson officiating..
Mr. Spores was born January 31, 1931 in Adrian, Michigan to the late Clyde and Bessie Spores. He was a class of 1951 Glynn Academy graduate, where he played football and went on with his team to win the South Georgia Championship in 1949. He retired from Hercules after 34 years as a foreman. He also served in the Georgia National Guard for 11 years. He was active in Glynn County Athletics for over 20 years as a coach. He was head coach of the Ballard Midgets (The Awesome Eleven). He led them to seven championships in the nine years he coached. He was an avid golfer and a truly committed Bama fan. He loved the Lord and others and showed it in how he cared for his family through the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters and a son Roy Lee Spores, Jr.
Survivors include a son Randall Spores (Lisa) of Brunswick, a daughter Julie Spores of Brunswick, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Lighthouse Brubswick Church an hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lighthouse Brunswick.
