Ruth Pafford Pafford Burney

Mrs. Burney was born in Pearson, Georgia on June 24, 1914. She moved to Brunswick with her family in 1921. She was a graduate of Glynn Academy in 1932. She was a member of the Norwich Baptist Church for over 50 years where she participated in many activities including the Church choir and was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She moved to Baptist Village in 1999 where she was a favorite with the staff and residents. For the past 5 years, she has been honored as the Matriarch of the Pafford family and was the great granddaughter of the late Senator Rowan Pafford.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Harvey Owen Burney, a son, Andrew Rowan Burney and her parents, Jessie Rowan Pafford and Ella Davis Pafford, three sisters, Hazel Woods, Ruby Denty and Lillian Brewer and one brother, James Pafford.

Survivors are four daughters, June B. Nichols (Joe) of Knoxville, TN, Sandra B. Chapman (Joe) of Townsend, Ga., Linda B. Davis (Pete) of Newington, N.H.,, Jackie B. Todd of Marietta, Ga., a son, Rod Burney (Susan) of Townsend, Ga., two sisters, Jonnie Ricks of Paducah, KY. and Evilee Russell of Rockledge, FL., grandchildren, Jennifer Hinton (Jeff) of Charlotte, N.C., Marc Davis (Jenn) of Barrington, R.I., Le Ann Newman (Gardner) of Fredericksburg, VA., Owen Burney (Alicia) of LA Paz, Bolivia, and Dr. Christopher Davis (Missy) of Denver, CO., great grandchildren, Jesse Led Hinton, Rachel Hinton, Rachel Hinton, Elizabeth June Hinton, Thomas Newman, Ella Newman, Matthew Davis, Ian Davis., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday 4/6/10 at the Norwich Baptist Church with Rev. Art Cypers officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Marc Davis, Owen Burney, Dr. Christopher Davis, Jeff Hinton and Gardner Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Baptist Village in Waycross, Ga.

The family request in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Baptist Village, 2639 Carswell Ave., Waycross, Ga., 31503 or the Norwich Baptist Church building Fund, 5661 New Jesup Highway, Brunswick, Ga., 31523. The family will receive visitors at the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 5 to 6:30 PM Monday 4/5/10.
