Having lived around the world with her parents, Shannon had the opportunity to meet many interesting people who filled her with a wealth of knowledge and encouraged her curiosity. She touched the lives of everyone she met.
Shannon was a loving daughter to Sandra and Gary Bottjer. Gary passed too soon and Sandra (Nana) only recently passed.
Shannon and her husband Tom met while teaching at Pembroke Pines Charter High School in Florida where they connected over their love of life.
They moved to St. Simons Island in 2011 with daughter Ava in tow, then welcomed Livi into their lives a few years later. Ava and Livi made their family complete and all of their biggest dreams a true reality.
The outgoing couple always lived life to the fullest, having family and friends over for Shannon’s favorite “Sunday Funday”. They loved the pool, graciously given by the Worthy family. Shannon enjoyed cooking, storytelling, and was always up for whatever fun adventure lay ahead.
Being well-traveled, and a history and literary enthusiast, Shannon had a passion and the unique skills necessary to be an extraordinary high school history teacher. These factors often made her a favorite amongst her students whom she loved to see while out and about on SSI. She and Tom truly enjoyed educating America’s youth.
Shannon bravely fought cancer for over a decade, always determined to push through. She possessed a zest for life, a spark in her soul, and an uncanny wit which followed her, regardless of life’s obstacles. Shannon always exhibited grace under life’s worst pressures, with a sense of ease.
She was deeply loved and adored by an entire community whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Shannon loved, and loved fully. She is celebrated and will be laid to rest on her birthday as she is scooped up in her heavenly father’s arms.
