On behalf of our family, we’d like to announce that Sharon passed from her body in a stately manner on May 29, 2023, a sunny Memorial Day afternoon.
She was surrounded by her daughters, Tamara and Trisha, granddaughter, Charlotte, and nieces, Melissa and Gretchen, in her beloved home on St. Simons Island, Ga. She passed peacefully and gracefully to join her departed husband, Mike Mitchell and parents, Raymond and Edith Fournier.
Sharon was a woman who graced us all with laughter and loyalty beyond measure. Anyone who knew her was blessed by her real, regal and relentless presence. She will be remembered as a caregiver, especially for her family of 4 children and grandchildren.
Amidst raising three children on her own, she became a registered nurse and later in the 70's a nurse anesthetist. Some of her happiest times were with family, friends and neighborhood kids who gathered at her carefree homestead. She would cook a nurturing meal and listen with an open heart and mind. We, who were lucky enough to receive these gifts, remember how she espoused practical wisdom carefully, without attachment. She gave us the freedom to live, make mistakes, and be ourselves. She was a true Earth Mother, a horse lover, gardener, reader, music lover and artist.
Sharon was born in 1942 in rural Michigan, when her daddy was called to war and her mom carried the load. She was the middle child of 3 girls. She found much solace with her horse, "Goldenboy," who she never stopped dreaming of and loving. She relocated to St Simons Island with her husband in the 90’s and they built their island dream home. She found much joy in the ocean and her beautiful yard.
She is survived by her children, the three T’s; Todd, Tamara and Trisha Kruger and Michael Mitchell, her sister Diana Nelson, her grandchildren: Charlotte, Uriah, Adam, Eric, Matthew and Jeffrey, nieces: Melissa, Angela, Amy and Gretchen who remained close to her throughout her life. In addition to many nieces, grand nieces and nephews and dear friends.
For our mom who lived a damn good life, let us say with a joyful heart that she is loved, she is light, she is legend, and she left a legacy. She will remain forever in our hearts. When you think of Sharon now, imagine her riding free on her beloved "Goldenboy"…into the mystic.
A funeral service for Sharon will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.
