

A graduate of Glynn Academy, Norman College, and Mercer University, she also earned a Master of Religious Education Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Shirley did post graduate studies at the University of Missouri, K.C., Warrensburg University, and Statesboro University.
Faithful to her Lord and the churches she attended, she worked as youth director or teacher, the things she loved. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Brunswick, where she worked with the home bound ministry, volunteered in the library, and taught the Love in Action Bible Study Class. Shirley loved teaching school. She began her 32 year career with four years in Glynn County. The next seventeen were spent teaching in Kansas City, Missouri. She then moved back to Glynn County and taught eleven more years before retiring.
Shirley was awarded as Teacher of Excellence and Teacher of the Year several times in Missouri and Glynn County, and was named to Who’s Who in America’s Teachers. She was a member of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for outstanding women educators, and the Exchangettes of Brunswick. Active in both groups, she served as president and other levels of leadership.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Robert H. Joyner, daughter-in-law, Sherri Dunn (Bob deceased), two grandchildren, Jason Dunn (Briana), Bobbi Jo Munsen (Mark) of Overland Park, Kansas and two great-grandchildren, Garrison Munsen and Emersen Munsen. There are also several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jim Van Allen, Thomas Van Allen, J.R. Van Allen, Bruce Clements, Spencer Tait, and Greg Yancey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Love in Action Bible Class, the Exchangettes of Brunswick, the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Dr. David Heine, and Dr. Stephen Chitty.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Chapel Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
