Shirley Marie Powers of Saint Simons Island, Georgia witnessed her last beautiful sunrise across the Atlantic Ocean before her Heavenly Father reached down and gently took her by the hand and said to her, “Well Done My Good and Faithful Child”. They then entered Heavens Gates and rejoiced with her love ones that had preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shirley was born in Washington D.C. the daughter of the late George W. Lash and the late Mary Ethel Lash. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Michael and Ricky Powers; a brother, Bob Lash; also the father of her children, Richard Powers.
Left to cherish the many fond memories of Mrs. Shirley are her children, Ann Jalajel and her husband Mark of Lake Ridge, VA, Catherine Seebald and her husband Joe of Buffalo, NY, Mary Flenniken of Woodbridge, VA, Margaret Mayer of Fredericksburg, VA, Andy Powers of Surprise, AZ, and Robert Powers of Woodbridge, VA; and two siblings, Danny Lash of Maryland and Jean Trimble of Illinois. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a lifetime of friends to reflect back on her wonderful life.
Mrs. Shirley attended Northern Virginia Community College after High School. Then later in life she began a successful career with the Civil Service as a computer specialist, where she retired after twenty-one years of dedicated employment. She had resided on St. Simons Island for the past ten years where she was an active member at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. She served as a Sacristan and was faithful to prepare the altar flowers for the worship services.
Mrs. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed bird watching and playing scrabble. She also enjoyed traveling and writing poetry. She was an artist and expressed her love of birds in her paintings. She will be remembered as a loving and caring lady who had a kind heart toward others.
