
Lt. Colonel Sidney Lewie Walker, Jr.,80, of Saint Simon’s Island, Georgia, passed away at home under Hospice care on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 22,1945.
Lt. Col. Walker’s career was spent in Civil Service for thirty-seven years, most recently serving as Deputy Director of Information Technology at Submarine Base, King’s Bay, Georgia. His Army Reserve career spanned thirty-one years and included duties in the Kwajalein Attol, Micronesia, and the Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Lewie Walker, his mother, Julia Knight Walker and his sister, Juliann Walker Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Tiller Walker, his sister, Martha Delores Walker of North Charleston, S.C., his son Sidney Lewie Walker III, of St. Simon’s Island, his grandson, Sidney Lewie Walker IV, his daughter Corley Walker Strunk of Apex, North Carolina, her husband John David Strunk, his grand daughter Julia Alexis Strunk and his niece Carmen Hanlon of North Charleston, S.C.
A private graveside service will take place at Christ Church Frederica, presided over by Father Tom Purdy, rector of Christ Church Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles.
