Sonja Jane Gardner, 57, of Darien, Georgia entered peacefully into eternal rest Monday, September 10, 2018 with her family by her side.

Sonja was born October 17, 1960 in Vidalia, Georgia the daughter of the late Jack Edward Gillis and the late Louise Barwick Gillis. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Candie Gillis.

Sonja graduated from McIntosh County Academy and later attended College of Coastal Georgia. She was employed with McIntosh County and served as the Clerk of Court for the past twelve years. She was a loving mother, sister, and aunt. Sonja will always remembered for her caring nature.

Left to cherish Sonja’s memories are her son, Brandon Holland of Darien, GA; a daughter, Taylor Holland of Darien, GA; one brother, John Gillis (Lavenia) of Slidell, LA; a nephew, Jack Gillis; two nieces, Ashley Gillis and Brandie Waddle (Jason). Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Sonja loved to spend time with family and friends. She also loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower garden. Sonja loved animals especially her dogs and cats. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. She will always be remembered as the fried chicken expert. Sonja had a special love for her nieces and nephews and often treated them as her own child.

The family will receive friends between 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Sonja’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien, Georgia.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Ginn, Jack Gillis, Roger Cummings, Ben Blocker, Thomas Bendimire, and James Ray Gault III.

Sonja will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.

I cant begin to describe how special a friend she was to me.... always fussing at me about my sugar consumption, or discussing good looking men. She was so much fun!
