

Stanley I. Messer, 77, of Brunswick, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. A private interment service will take place 10AM Saturday, July 2, 2011 in Brunswick Memorial Park with Rev. Jimmy Crandall officiating. A memorial service will follow at 2PM at Jekyll Island Baptist Chapel with Rev. Doug Messer, Rev. Robert Ether, and Rev. Jimmy Crandall officiating.
Born September 9, 1933 in Rochester, NY to the late Edward V. and Florence Ida Messer, he was a veteran of the US Army, and retired minister. Mr. Messer attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY and Eastman School of Music. He retired after 40 years of ministry in the Christian and Missionary Alliance. He had served churches in New York, North Carolina, and the mission field of Quito, Ecuador, where he served as manager of Alliance Guest House. Mr. Messer had also served as chaplain of St. Johns Fire department for 15 years in Tonawanda, NY, and having an extensive background in music, he sang with the Barber Shop Quartet in Rochester, NY. He had served as a chaplain for the past three years for Faith Works at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Mr. Messer was a member of Jekyll Island Baptist Chapel and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 3 years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Constance D. Messer of Brunswick, two sons, Gregory I. Messer of Tonawanda, NY and Rev. Douglas Messer and wife Jana of Rogersville, TN, a daughter, Judy D. Ether and husband Robert of Savannah, seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann McClure and husband Travis, Rhonda Carpenter and husband Ryan, Joshua Messer and wife Leigh, Jake Messer,, Maverick Messer, Bob Ether, Nathan Ether and wife Carol, Andrew Ether, and Daniel Ether, three great grandchildren, Faith Carpenter, David carpenter and Bristol Carpenter, one sister, Carol D. Messer of Franklin, NC, and six international children, Chui Chan, DDS of San Francisco, CA, Daniela Michnick of Munich, Germany, Elisabeth Ng Langdal of Oslow, Norway, Norbert Nemec of Germany, Sonexay Chanthansome of Johnson City, NY, and Marlene of Denmark.
