Steve was a devoted husband, loving father and accomplished businessman whose life was defined by family, hard work, and entrepreneurship, and a deep appreciation for the communities he help build.
Steve graduated from University of Southern Mississippi with a BBA and from Loyola University New Orleans with an MBA. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Observation Island. Steve spent his professional life in the retail food business. He founded Dawson and Associates, a food brokerage firm. He founded the Hatch Chile Company in 1987. He became the owner of Heritage Oaks and Sanctuary golf courses, where his vision and commitment created places for people to gather, enjoy the game, and make lasting memories.
Above all of his professional accomplishments, Steve cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Orians Dawson, and his daughters Janet Dawson, Diane Dawson, and Camille Dawson Moore; brother Bob Dawson; grandchildren Rob Miller and Gabrielle Dawson Harvin and great-grandchildren Dennis and Remi Miller and Honey Louise Harvin.
Steve will be remembered for the life he built, the people he touched, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue through his family, friends, and the communities that were fortunate to know him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ryan Goetz and Heartland Hospice (especially Kylee and Hannah), for the kindness and care they provided Steve and his family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heartland Hospice, Morningstar Children and Family Services or Coastal Pines Technical College – Golden Isles.
