Susan was born in Asheville, North Carolina to Clyde Talmadge Black and Mae Iva Pettit Black. She was full of laughter, had a beautiful smile, strength beyond measure, humility, silliness and a faith in God that never wavered no matter how challenging the circumstance. These qualities were helpful in her career at McLean-Behm Steel Erectors where she worked as the office manager for 38 years.
Susan was an animal lover and an avid reader who also loved gardening, shopping and decorating. She had wonderful friends and enjoyed the great times spent with her canasta and water aerobics groups as well as her book club. Susan will be remembered as a loving and generous person, with an amazing heart filled with tremendous kindness. She was selfless, always taking care of her family first, which brought her so much happiness.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jimmy Stowers of St. Simons Island; a daughter, Debra Ferguson (Chris) of St. Simons Island; a son, Kyle Stowers (Rhonda) of Ringgold, GA; two grandchildren, Samantha and James Stowers of Ringgold; a brother, Steve Black (Adrienne) of Denver, NC; a sister-in-law, Ann Doss of Snellville, GA; an Aunt, Dr. Peggy Pettit of South Riding, VA; grand pups, Beauregard and Bella and several cousins.
We are truly blessed to have had such an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and nana who loved her grandchildren dearly. The joy she brought to so many will always be cherished and remembered. A private remembrance will be held in her honor at a later date.
In honor of her love for animals, the family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia www.Adoptpetsnow.com or in honor of her strength and bravery, donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by visiting www.Pancan.org or by phone 877-272-6226.
