

Theodore (Ted) Hladik, 91, of Woodbine, formerly of St. Simons Island, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 AM Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. Williams Catholic Church with Monsignor John Keneally officiating. Entombment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Born May 17, 1919 in Clifton, New Jersey to the late John and Rose Koziar Hladik, he served in the United States Navy from 1939 until his retirement as a LCDR in 1964. CDR Hladik flew a variety of Navy airplanes and was a Charter Member of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation and the Silver Eagles Association. He also was a Charter Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America and American Legion Post 166. He obtained his undergraduate education from Marquette University in Milwaukee and his graduate degrees from Georgia Southern College. In 1967, he began his second career as an educator in the Glynn County School System, teaching at Brunswick High School from its inception in 1967 until his retirement in 1982. He was the first Student Council Advisor at Brunswick High, serving seven years in that position and was Glynn County’s STAR teacher in 1972. Mr. Hladik was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Lucille D. Hladik, one brother, Michael Hladik, and three sisters, Sr. Irene Hladik, Sr. Matthew Hladik and Rose Hladik Sturdevant.
Survivors include his daughter, Diana H. Person of Woodbine, two grandsons, Jonathan Person and wife Kristi of Brunswick, Tad Person and wife Jennifer of Orange Park, FL, five great grandchildren, Jonathan Person, Jr., Christopher Person, Abigail Person, Jack Person, and Allie Rose Person, a nephew, Bob Sturdevant and a niece, Kathleen S. Spina and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, September 23, 2010 from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525
