Mr. Kahler was born was born August 23, 1926 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the son of the late William Ralph and Louise Kahler. He served his country with honors as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. He was also a Golden Glove Boxer during his military service. He and his late wife, Edna Lee Kahler, moved their family to Brunswick in 1955. He was retired from Southern Bell as a switchman. Later in life having a passion for golf, he became the manager of Oceanside/Great Dunes Golf Course. Mr. Kahler was a Bellsouth Pioneers member and also a member of Emanuel United Methodist Church. Later in life he found true love again and married his current wife, Grace Eleanor Kahler.
In addition to his parents and late wife, Mr. Kahler is preceded in death by his four siblings. He is survived by his caring wife, Grace Eleanor Kahler; a daughter, Lee Isla Crosby Peters (Richard) of Brunswick, GA; four sons, Sonny Livingston (Paula) of Brunswick, GA, Bruce A Kahler (Barbara) of St. Mary’s, GA, Burt T. Kahler of Brunswick, GA, and Bart C. Kahler of Brunswick, GA; four granddaughters, Danielle Kohlhepp of Sykesville, MD, Cindy Cunningham of Brunswick, GA, Jackie Hollaway (David) of Brunswick, GA, and Janice Livingston of Brunswick, GA; three grandsons, Johnny Crosby (Brenda) of Brunswick, GA, Mark Crosby of St. Simons Island, GA, and Dennis Kahler (Tonya) of Kingsland,GA; three great granddaughters that held a special place in his heart, Bryce Kahler of Kingsland, GA, Abby Fulk (Jonathan) of Kingsland, GA, and Rylee Kohlhepp of Sykesville, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Kahler loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was always friendly to everyone he came in contact with and love to share his funny jokes. He also loved his pets and was an avid golfer. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Brunswick. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow at 2:00 PM at Emanuel United Methodist Church. Reverend Eddie Morrison will officiate the service.
