

Virginia Maxine Harper Strickland, 88, of Brunswick, passed away Sunday, August 04, 2013 at Fairhaven Assisted Living. Ms. Virginia was born May 27, 1925 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Robert S. Harper and Louise Harper and moved to Brunswick when she was a little girl. She was a founding member of Blythe Island United Methodist Church and a member of Arco United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished cook and loved tending to her flowers. She enjoyed sports, having play on women’s softball teams through the years. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves played baseball. Mrs. Strickland also enjoyed working for Bennett, Gilbert, Gilbert, Whittle and Harrell Law Firm for 20 plus years.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her two children: Robert L. Strickland (Frances) of Gainesville, GA and Harold E. Strickland (Kathy) of Brunswick; her sister: Betty Anne Mavromat of Brunswick; four grandchildren: Sharon Brady (Bill) of Smyrna; Craig Strickland (Michelle) of Statesboro; Brad Strickland (Rhonda) of Virginia and Brian Strickland (Jessica) of Colorado; six great grandchildren: Cameron Brady, Jackson Strickland, Brittany Strickland, Tanner Strickland, Erin Patrick and Emily Patrick and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Quinton L. Strickland and her brothers: Bobby Harper and Sonny Harper.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6-8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10Am in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 with Rev. Ron Burbank officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Johnny Mavromat, Ryan Gibbs, Herman Diestel, Andy Mavromat, Phil Flournoy, and Petey Harper.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blythe Island United Methodist Church or to Hospice of the Golden Isles. Arrangements have been entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
