I am a teacher at Sterling Elementary School and for several years we were fortunate enough to have Steve come and speak to our students. He did such a great job of keeping the students interested and engaged. And showed them the only limitations you have are the ones you
place on yourself. Thank you for sharing your son and brother with us. My students are all better people for having met him. 

Steve was a true inspiration to everyone around him. I am lucky to have worked with him at FLETC for many years and call him my friend.  He enjoyed coming to our parties - my deepest condolences for your loss.

As an educator, my students and I were fortunate enough to have a visit by Steve for many years.  His sharing helped all of us to realize you never give up on yourself.  We will never know how many lives he change due to his inspirations . He will never be forgotten.

I first heard about Steve while working at the B. News with Sandy and Wes. Sandy loves both her children, deeply.  Linda, she often bragged about you and your career.  Sandy was such a wonderful caretaker of Steve and when he was hired by FLETC, she was so proud. I came to know Steve better after going to work for FLETC. He was a wonderful, kind and funny person who uplifted everyone around him. He will be missed by all of us, but those of us he touched with his wonderful spirit will forever keep him in our hearts.

Working across the hall from Steve at FLETC, I witnessed  his positive attitude, work ethic, and great camaraderie.    He was an inspiration.  I felt blessed to have known and worked with him. 
Only meeting Steve's Mom on a couple of occasions,  I have the greatest admiration for her, pray comfort and blessings to her and all of Steve's family. I can only  imagine how deeply their loss must be felt.

I remember Steve when he came to the plays at The Island Players and how much he enjoyed being there.  Always a pleasure to see him and  how special he was.  

I had the opportunity to work with Steve on numerous occasions while at the FLETC.  His  dedication to his job and technical expertise were remarkable, however, his main attribute...attitude, was a trait we all should emulate.  I first heard of this “can do” person before I ever met him from a person I consider Mr. FLETC, John Dooher.  John spoke legions of Steve, and as glowingly about Sandy.  Per usual, John was “on the money”.
May the solace of knowing that Steve is in a better place than all of us bring peace to his shining star, Sandy, and the entire Oldaker family.

I first met Steve at a computer club meeting and before I knew it I was attending other meetings for disabled people in Glynn County. From there I got involved in helping others with disabilities. Steve convincingly had me go to lunch and learns at the GDOL and other places in the community. He even had me go to FLETC for a talk that I had to give to the staff and instructors. If it wasn’t for Steve, then I probably would not have had all the opportunities and experiences that I had in in mental health disability advocacy. He was an amazing guy that knew how to bring people together for the better meant of the community. I’m glad that I knew him. I’m sorry for your loss. He will be missed. 

Prayers for Steve and his family. We enjoyed , benefited from his computer club classes for many years. He was a great citizen and his other contributions not just to this community were very significant as well.    Dennie McCrary

I can remember all the way back to Sheppard’s Hospital,  from the start of Steve’s new life. I never from the beginning ever heard him complain!  Always had a great smile and from then on he came into so many lives, as well as mine.  I will never forget the many times that you came to my classroom and talked to my children about safety and wearing seatbelts, you were so honest answering my boys and girls of your experiences.   How they loved the lift!

Steve was a wonderful young man. I worked with him at the FLETC.  He was my go to computer person. Always willing to help and took time to explain procedures. He will be great missed. Rest in Peace.

Just wanted to let you know how sorry we were to hear about Steve’s passing.  He was an inspiration to all who knew him.  I will never forget his positive attitude and how he never had an unkind word to say about anyone.  I still recall the time we sat down together, and he came up with a Foxpro program to catalog legal opinions in the office of the Legal Counsel at FLETC.  His original program has changed over time and has become the repository for thousands of legal actions that can be searched and retrieved.  His legacy will always be remembered at the FLETC.  We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.

Thank God for the life and legacy Steve has given us all. His willingness to look beyond his own situation and to share with others how to overcome adversities and to make the best of life will always be remembered. I often recall seeing him at the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimps (formerly Jacksonville Suns) baseball games, always with a smile and a word of encouragement. Thanks for sharing that gift. Sandy, Wes and Linda - God's blessings on you for sharing him with us all.

I can count on one hand the number of persons I have known in my life time that I believe were put on this earth that had a profound affect in my life. A best friend, a brother, a mentor in life.

My son Jamez was Steve’s friend.  I remember when Jamez his brother Jon and I came to visit Steve.  We all enjoyed the cherry soda with Steve and his mom Sandy. Jamez never stop talking about the soda.  Thank you Steve and Sandy for being in my son Jamez’s short life. They are now in heaven together to fly and run free.  Watch over us. What an honor it was to have known Steve!  He taught most of us at the FLETC to use computers which was a huge undertaking working with all of us who barely knew anything at that time.  He was always patient, kind, and extremely knowledgeable without being intimidating.  He was never too busy to drop everything to help you or answer questions.

I believe he was truly one of God's angels who was sent here to teach the rest of us how to cope with seemingly insurmountable difficulties.  In all those years,  I never heard Steve complain about anything.  He was truly an inspiration to many.

To his family - You were so lucky to have him, and he was so very lucky to have you to care for him. May he be dancing and dining with Heaven's finest!

Steve's generous and positive spirit inspired me and countless numbers of my high school students every time he spoke to my classes in both Glynn and Camden Counties. 

They  were amazed by his spirit and positive attitude despite his physical limitations, especially when he told them he wasn't interested in exchanging places with any one of them because everyone has problems and issues, and he had accepted his and the good life he possessed: An excellent job.  The respect of his colleagues and peers. Loyal friends. A loving family. Steve gave my high school students and me words of wisdom with each visit. 

God speed, dear Steve. Run free in Paradise! Sandy and Wesley, thank you for sharing your beautiful son with us all.  

What a dear, dear friend.  I am so thankful for the times we spend together whether it was work, home, out, or hospitals.  Sandy and Wes without your unselfish support, love and respect for your son,  Steve’s life would not have been so smooth.   I love and applaud you both.  Linda,  by the way Steve spoke about  you, distance never seemed to separated yas.

Steve has always been an my idol.  May he RIP.  Sandy, you always say your home is open to Pete and I and when we are in the area, we will be knocking on your door.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Steve who was truly a remarkable person who had a smile one could never forget.  He was truly apart of the FLETC family and friend.  God definitely placed Steve to give everyone in his life inspiration because that is what he did. 

Steve was an amazing man. He made significantly contributions to the FLETC;
And always Greeted colleagues with a big broad smile. He bore his physical burdens without complaining and was admired by all who met him. God bless him and his family for their loving care. 

Steve was a courageous man and FLETC was fortunate to have him as part of it’s family. He had visible physical limitations to some, but to his friends and fellow employees there were no limits. He could do things using his mind and other skills that one could only wonder. Fate had it that he knew suffering,  but he mostly dismissed or declined to talk of it. His family loved and took such good care of Steve, that he arguably had the best of life on earth. Now he knows a life of eternal comfort, peace and love.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve for years at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.  He was one of the finest and most dedicated people at the Center.  I had the utmost admiration for Steve for all he had done in his life and his common sense attitude toward life.  He was a fine man and I am honored to have known him and to have worked with him. His mother was very special to him as well and her devotion and care giving was something else I admired.  I enjoyed talking with both of them when she would drop him off or pick him up from work.

The world has lost a fine person.

Steve was one of the most amazing people I have ever known.  Despite his many physical challenges, he was always upbeat and positive.  My office was near his and I never heard a negative comment or complaint.  He shared his considerable expertise willingly.  He not only managed a life well lived, he used his experience and efforts to enable others to thrive.  He left the world a better place and will certainly be missed.

Steve was a marvelous addition to the FLETC - ISD (Information Systems Division) staff.    Not only was he quite knowledgeable in all areas of computers, but he also had a delightful personality.  Rarely without a smile and encouraging word!   He was gifted in explaining /teaching.  Most of us interacted with Steve (when we were all in B94) on a daily basis as his office was close to the back entrance.  It was sad when 94 went under a long renovation as we were sent to townhouses, but fortunately from time to time we would encounter Steve as he traveled around the townhouse area.  Many thanks, particularly to his Mom Sandy, for transporting Steve to/from the Center on a daily basis.  In retirement I have often played the computer game, Words, with Steve.  As hard as I would try, Steve beat me every time, one time scoring 104 points on one word, unheard of!  Sandy, my prayers to you and your family.  Please know what an inspiration Steve was - and will continue to be, to many of his FLETC friends!  Nancy Hicks


Wes, Sandy and Linda, Steve will be sorely missed. He left a lasting mark on FLETC and those with whom he came in contact there. May it give you some measure of comfort that your grief is shared by so many of his colleagues.


Every time I think of Steve, I always see him with a smile on his face. In all the years I worked with him at FLETC, I never heard him speak disparagingly about anyone. He was one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever known. He came up with brilliant solutions to our information technology needs and cared about our mission. Most importantly, though, in all things, he lived his life for the Lord. He had such a positive impact on my life. He always gave me such wonderful advice, and I appreciated his prayers. 

Working for years around Steve, watching him take off down the street going to another office and watching his interaction with all of us....He amazed me! Such a wonderful, caring, young man working to the best of his ability with all his limitations....he just kept on going! He always had a smile for everyone.  Bless his family for caring for him ... now he is whole! Praying for the family.
