

William “Bill” as he was affectionately known was born in Hamilton, New York on May 4, 1939 to Dorothy and Lawrence Dumigan. As a youth, Bill was a star football and baseball player at Central High School in Syracuse, NY and also Boxed for the Boys Club team. After graduating from high school in 1957, Bill joined the Coast Guard where he was stationed in San Diego, CA and excelled at boxing on the Coast Guard team. After his military service, Bill enrolled at Syracuse University earning his History degree in 1965. After college Bill married the former Penny Wood. He then became employed with New York Life Insurance. He was blessed to have three children; two sons, Kevin 49 and Keith 46; a beloved daughter Kim (48) who was tragically lost to cancer in 2016. After a successful 28 year career at New York Life as a Senior Vice President, Bill retired to St. Simons Island, GA, in 1993. Never one to rest, Bill bought a hot dog cart on the island. In 1998, Bill married the former Dale O’Quinn and through hard work and tenacity (and the help of his loving family) turned the hot dog cart into the island staple known today as Hot Dog Alley. Bill gave his all to making Hot Dog Alley a success and thrived on the thrill of serving his loyal customers and being a part of their lives.
Bill enjoyed playing pool, fishing and an occasional round of golf. As a younger man he loved coaching his son’s soccer games, traveling with his son Kevin to motor cross races and going on family camping trips.
Bill is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Dick, Ron, and Dave; a sister, Kay; and his daughter, Kim. He is survived by his current wife, Dale; his brother, Bob; his son, Kevin; his first wife, Susan; a granddaughter, Katie; a son, Keith; son- in- law, Steve; a grandson, Tyler. Also surviving is his stepson, Kyle Allen and his wife Kelly; grandchildren, Kennedy, McClain, and Cambelle; stepson, Cary Allen; grandchildren, Asher and Ava; one stepdaughter, Tannis Allen. Three brother- in- laws, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Bill was a quiet and gentle soul who will be sorrowfully missed by all who loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come. May he rest in peace!!!
The family will receive friends during the hours of 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2016 at Saint Simons Community Church. The funeral service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2016 at Saint Simons Community Church. Reverend David Yarborough, Pastor Agnes Sellers, and Pastor Randy Sellers will officiate the service. The burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial park Cemetery on Saint Simons Island.
