OBITUARY
William "Bill" Winfred Young Jr.
October 26, 1960 – February 15, 2021
William Young (Bill), 60, of Brunswick GA, passed away on February 15, 2021, after being involved in a vehicular accident. Bill was born on October 26, 1960 to Dorothy and William Young in Brunswick, GA. He is survived by one daughter, Jessica (Love) Marie Young.
Bill graduated from Glynn Academy in 1978. While still in high school, he worked part time at WMOG, one of the local AM radio station. This was the start of a forty-year career. During his career, he achieved many awards and accomplishments. A few of his awards included being the Program Director of the Year in 1998 and the winner of two Addy Awards as writer/producer in Roanoke, Virginia. He also organized a charity concert with the Dixie Chicks on behalf of St Jude’s Children’s’ Hospital presenting them with a check for over $100,000. His achievement that he took the most pride in during his radio career was being a driving force in the creation of 92.7 SSI, one of the most arguably listened to radio stations in the southeast coastal region. In 2017, he was recognized with the Gabby Award along with Joe Willie Sousa and Daniel Kent. He was the voice for Iguana’s Seafood. One could say he was “shrimply the best”.
Bill’s daughter was his pride and joy. She meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. One would frequently hear Bill talk about how impressed he was by her firm convictions. Bill was a passionate and talented thespian. When he wasn’t at work, he could often be found at play practice. This was a fondness he discovered later in life, but it was readily apparent that he had a natural aptitude for the stage. He was a member of the Island Players on Saint Simons. Bill’s many talents also included being a very gifted writer. He just had a way with words. One would find pieces of paper with a poem he just had to write down when the inspiration would hit. He was also the author of several blogs. His blogs were a source of help to many.
He was a loving father and friend. He is leaving a void for all of those that knew him. A celebration of life gathering will be held in his honor at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home starting 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. You are cordially invited to join the family in celebrating a life well lived with consideration of wearing a mask and social distancing.

Bill hired me right out of college to run the board for syndicated shows on WMAG & WMFR, and do overnights on WFXF as “Kevin Rock & Roll Rivers” (he named me that). He was always cracking jokes and loved doing an impression of Herman Munster. I’ll never forget Bill Young for giving me that opportunity to prove myself. He will be greatly missed. Peace and love to all.

My heart is so sad to learn of Bill's passing - I consider him a friend and he always had a smile to share with me - he was a tremendous supporter of Keep Golden Isles Beautiful and really helped us get our messages out to the community - he will be deeply missed by so many for so many different reasons.

My husband and I didn't know Bill personally but had the pleasure of enjoying seeing him through the Island Players. He was a favorite actor of ours to see, he was so talented and added so much to each performance! The last show we saw Bill in was the play that was going on when Covid first appeared. We were lucky to see the last performance of that play before the Island Players had to cancel the remaining shows. At the end of our show that night all the actors stayed on stage instead of going to the lobby as they normally do. Bill was standing there, with his big smile. I thanked him for making us laugh so much, how much we always enjoyed his performances and thanked him for giving us so much enjoyment that night. He will be missed and fondly remembered. Our deepest sympathy to his daughter and family.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I always loved Bill. He was a great guy. I talked to him a lot in the past few years - enjoyed his stories of past adventures, his sense of humor, and his love and pride for his daughter.
He will be missed.
My heart goes out to his family.

Rusty and I will miss Bill's kind heart. He was a good guy and loved his daughter! The kind of person one wants for a friend. We loved coming home and hearing his voice and, as often happened, running into him and sharing a smile.
Our prayers and condolences to all who loved him.

I am Gil Moor. In the 70's I was one of the owners of WMOG (AM) where Bill started his broadcast career. He and his buddy Glenn Carson started together. In high school both were hired as on-the-air voices.
Bill Young and I shared something that I look back on very fondly. We both donated our time to put on a weekly children's TV show on the local TV cable channel. Bill had many creative ideas and was the voice of Gorf the Frog (Gorf is frog spelled backwards). Now, decades later, I still have one of the video tapes which rekindles my fond memories.
The last time I saw Bill, he came with gifts....Queen CD's. He found out that I was a Queen fan.
We'll miss you, Buddy.

Bill Young was a wonderful surprise who happened upon us at KSTT Radio in Davenport IA in the late 70's/early 80's.
Bill was an outstanding on-air talent, but mostly he was a tremendous person that everyone absolutely loved and will never forget! God bless Bill Young from his friends in the Quad Cities

I am beyond sad to learn of Bill's passing. He hired me in 1995 to be the Music Director at WHSL in Greensboro, NC. He was going into the country format from another format and I was there to help him launch the station. It was so much fun and he was a terrific boss. When people compared me to another girl on the radio, he would always say something like "You are the master, she is the learner", like from the movie "Karate Kid" or something. He was hilarious! And not only was he a great boss, he was a great guy. And oh how many conversations did we have about the Eagles football team! There are too many funny memories to list here...and even though I hadn't seen him in a while, I can still picture his smile and hear his laugh. Bill Young, you were loved and will be missed!

So sorry for you loss, Jess. I knew Bill for over 40 years, since he worked radio in Iowa when he was 19. Loved him like a brother. We did get a chance to see each other in August of 2019. I will cherish the good times we had together then and through the years. He was a good soul. I will miss him dearly. God speed, B.Y.
