William Joseph Dalton Jr.
January 12, 1938 – April 15, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of William Joseph Dalton, Jr. He passed away in Brunswick, GA on April 15, 2021 at the age of 83.
Bill was born on January 12, 1938 in Chicago, IL to the late William Joseph Dalton and Mary Cull Dalton. A witty and fun-loving Irishman, Bill graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL in 1956. He earned a BA with Cum Laude distinction in 1959 and a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1960 from The University of Notre Dame. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy as an officer on the USS Trathen where he made life-long friends while serving our country in the Pacific. He then returned to Chicago where he met his wife, Mary Luth Dalton. They married in 1967 and had three children.
Bill earned an MBA from The University of Chicago in the early 1970s and embarked on a successful career as a sales executive, most notably with Ceridian Corporation. His job took his family from Chicago to Seattle, WA for five years, where they enjoyed exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest. They returned to the Chicago area in late 1982 where Bill and Mary lived until retiring to St. Simons Island, GA in 2000.
An avid sports fan, Bill followed his favorite Chicago teams, including the Bears, the Bulls, the White Sox and the Cubs (yes, he rooted for both Chicago baseball teams) through thick and thin. Notre Dame sports was also a passion, and he proudly wore his ND gear whenever possible.
Bill was a beloved and admired husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His charm, intelligence and integrity made a significant impact on all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Mary, as well as his children: Anne Dalton Ruh (spouse Mark); William Andrew Dalton (spouse Kathy); and Lesley Gray Dalton. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Erin Ruh, Caitlin Ruh, Lindsay Ruh and Jack Dalton as well as his brother James Dalton (spouse Ellen).
Memorial celebrations will be planned in St. Simons Island, GA and Dowagiac, MI at a later date.
Edo Miller and Sons is in charge of the arrangements. You may sign the register book and leave condolences for the family at www.edomillerandsons.com

On behalf of the members of the Notre Dame Class of 1959, may I extend our sympathy, and our promise of prayers to Mary G., and to the members of Bill's family. A Mass, which will honor Bill's memory, will be offered on the Notre Dame campus, by a Holy Cross priest.

I’ll miss you every day Dad.
I couldn’t love you more and I am so thankful for you.
I’ll always keep this photo of you, me and Mom in Ireland in my dresser. Whenever I see it I smile.
