William Allan Matthiessen, 82, of Brunswick, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 11AM Friday, January 7, 2011 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Johns officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Glynn Academy Classes of 1946-47, Dr. William Grubb and staff, Drs. Ted and Emily Feely and staff, Dr. Michael Butler and staff, and the staff of Golden Isles Dialysis.
Born January 31, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Paul Monroe and Mary Susie Allen Matthiessen, he was a retired building contractor and a graduate of Glynn Academy Class of 1946 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Matthiessen was raised in Brunswick and became an avid supporter of Glynn Academy athletics where he played football. He also enjoyed fishing and the beauty of Glynn County. He was of the Episcopal Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jake Matthiessen.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann Matthiessen of Brunswick, a son, Glenn Matthiessen and wife Linda of Chapin, SC, two grandchildren, David Matthiessen and Dylan Matthiessen, two brothers, Jerry Matthiessen and Matt Matthiessen both of Bradenton, Fl, a sister in law, Marlene Matthiessen of Fallbrook, CA, a special cousin, Jan Casey of Brunswick, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 AM until the funeral hour at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
