Mr. Pate was a native of Cordele, GA and had been a resident of Brunswick for the past 66 years. He attended Crisp County High School in Cordele and the LSU School of Banking. He was retired from the SunTrust Bank (formerly First National Bank of Brunswick). He was a member of the Kiwanis International and the First Baptist Church of Brunswick.
He was a member of the Glynn County Board of Commissioner for 14 years and had served as Chairman and was a dedicated community volunteer. He was also a Georgia National Guardsman.
He was an avid sports fan, a talented artist and singer and he loved carpentry.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Laverne F. Pate of Brunswick, a daughter, Andrea Pate Willis of Tifton, GA, a son, Hal Pate of Lawrenceville, GA, a brother, Geoffrey Pate of Arabi, GA, four grandchildren, Hallie Alyse Willis of Atlanta, GA, Paten Lane Willis of Tifton, GA, Elyse Marie Pate and Andrew William Pate both of Lawrenceville, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday 11/6/10 in the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with Rev. James E. Crandall and Rev. Tommy McMillan officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: Vernon Willis, Paten Willis, Andrew Pate, David Faulk, William Faulk, Blair Faulk, Hugh Leggett and Neil Strickland.
The family will receive friends in the Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Friday and the family request in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 4340 Georgetown Square, Suite 608, Atlanta, GA, 30338 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
