

Willie Mae “Billie” Tuten Gay entered into the loving arms of Jesus on October 10, 2017 at the age of 103. Mrs. Gay was born on October 29, 1913 in Bristol, GA to the late John Alexander Tuten and Susie Belle Tuten Taylor. She was a retired receptionist from the former law firm of Fendig, McLemore, Taylor, Whitworth and Durham, were she had worked for over 40 years. Mrs. Gay was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, Georgia.
Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her husband; J. “Monk” Monroe Gay; three brothers, Darcey E. Tuten (Betty), J. Stewart Tuten (Frances), and J. A. Tuten (Nell); four sisters, Vernon Tuten Clark (Judge), Blanche Tuten Mills (Charlie), Mary Lois Tuten Hanson (Elwood), and Lanelle Tuten Knight (Wright); and 1 nephew, Ronald O. Clark.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Patricia Tuten Vinton (Luke) of St. Simons Island, GA, Dr. Carroll S. Tuten (Peggy) of Brunswick, GA, Elaine Tuten Banner (Pete) of Boulder, CO, Brenda Mills Parker (C H) of Waynesville, GA., Sandra Knight Gruber (Jim) of Crossville, TN, Donna Tuten Doss (Ken), Allan Wright Knight III, Kathy Hanson James (Tommy) of Brunswick, GA, Sara Jean Gay Brackney (Ed) of Berea, NC, and George Gay Jr. (Wanda). Several great and great-great nieces and nephews survive. She is also survived by special friend Donna Crossland.
Mrs. Gay was an avid Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan and never missed a televised ball game. She and her husband, the late J. Monroe Gay, were charter members of the Brunswick Country Club. Billie enjoyed playing golf for many, many years. They were also owners, in the 40’s of the Sea Breeze Motor Court located on U. S. 17. Mrs. Gay was a graduate of Glynn Academy (1933) and to our knowledge was the oldest living member at the time of her death.
At the time of her death she was a resident of Senior Care, Brunswick, GA, prior to moving to Senior Care she was a resident of St. Marks Towers where she had made many new friends. To know Billie Gay was to love her, she had made many lasting friendships over her lifetime. She was truly a wonderful, caring and Christian woman. She was truly a selfless person, never putting herself first. She was truly a Proverbs 31 lady. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Brunswick Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers it is requested that contributions be made the First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Billie's memory may be made to First United Methodist Church,1400 Norwich St, Brunswick, Georgia 31520 or to a charity of your choice.
