Zackery Cade Westberry, an Assistant Chief Community Supervision Officer with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, and a lifelong resident of Brunswick, Georgia, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday July 21, 2021 at the age of 40 years old. He is survived by his wife, Janice Lee Westberry; mother, Mary Marie Westberry (Candy); sister, Jenny Bennett (Scott); nephew, Wyatt Hall; step-children, Michelle Roberts, Matthew Burman, and Marissa Ogden, and nine (9) grandchildren along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lewis and Doris Music; paternal grandparents Emory and Elma Westberry; father, Ricky Westberry; and nephew Granger Bennett.
Zack was born March 9, 1981. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1999 and was a member of the Brunswick High Marching Band and Jazz Band where he played Tenor Saxophone. In 2002, he graduated from the College of Coastal Georgia with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. From 2003 to 2006 Zack worked for the United States Customs and Border Protection Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), while at the same time finishing his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia, in 2005.
In 2006 Zack was hired by the Georgia Department of Child Support Services as a Child Support Enforcement Agent. Continuing with his law enforcement career Zack became a Parole Officer with Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, where he remained until 2015. In 2014 he was awarded “Employee of the Quarter” because while off duty with his family, he apprehended a fleeing suspect who had just threatened a woman with a knife, and assisted police with the arrest. From 2015 to the present, Zack worked for the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, ascending to the position of Assistant Chief Community Supervision Officer.
On a personal level, Zack was a very religious man and a member of Arco United Methodist Church. Zack loved fishing in the summer and hunting in the winter, along with all outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge of these things with family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 11am in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Don Combs and Pastor Wesley Deverger officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery with Jimmy Music, Rodney Scott Bennett, Mitchell Wyatt Hall, Layton Anderson, Kyle Grimes, and Matthew Burman serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Wiggins, Jerry Nail, Employees of Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS), Members of Lakeside United Methodist Church, and Members of Arco United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Tuesday Evening from 6pm until 8 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
