We are so sorry on the passing of Uncle Ronnie. You and your family are in our hearts and prayers.

I have had the privilege in meeting Ronnie Chou when my daughter married to his son Chris. My family is forever grateful to Ronnie and Cecilia for raising what a complete man and husband Chris has become today. Together we have been able to enjoy one of life's blissful giving in watching our grandchildren's (Nathaniel and Blakely) grow up. Ronnie was a generous and kind person who lived with high dignity and honor. His education and knowledge made us like to discuss and learn about interesting subjects such as politics and economy. It is very sad and heart breaking knowing that Ronnie has passed away. At this mourning moment, as Catholic’s, we pray God to bless and console the members of the Chou family. May he rest in peace and his soul will soon be in the kingdom of God. 

Our dear friend, Ronnie, is gone -- and the world is a little darker without his joy and kindness.  I last saw Ronnie in July 2019, when he, his wife Ceci, my friend Stan & Anna, my youngest son and I all enjoyed a wonderful Indian curry lunch together during my visit to Toronto.  I'm so happy that my son was able to meet him in person because Ronnie is someone whom I believed to be such a fine role model for so many.  I also fondly remember the times we gathered at Myra's home in Vancouver, laughing the night away and reminiscing about our time in India.  

I will miss talking to Ronnie about how our lives changed upon leaving India with a great appreciation for our lives today.  We enjoyed talking about politics and global affairs, which was appropriate given his world travels.  A religious man, I know he is with God and is looking after his beloved Ceci and children.  May his soul rest in peace.  

I came to know Ronnie and Ceci through Victor when we took a cruise together in 2008, Ronnie was know for his sincerity, humorous and easiness to get along. Through all these years, golfing with him were much fun and enjoyment ( especially his Indian jokes). I really miss you, Ronnie.


Just can't believe our Ronnie is no more with us and left so suddenly before his time.  All week I felt he was still with us until this early morning  when I awoke at 5 a.m.  and I just couldn't go back to sleep. Thoughts of Ronnie flooded my mind and I was filled with sadness.  
Memories of Ronnie brought tears and joy.  I enjoyed talking to him.  He was very well read  and had an incredible memory and would talk about his interesting career at sea  and achievements. I always enjoyed listening to his life experiences and also his views on politics.  He had a vast knowledge of the world and it was stimulating talking to him.
Although Ronnie is gone from us physically I know he will always be with with us in our hearts.  He will be missed by all who love and cherish him. May he rest peacefully in the arms of his Heavenly Father.


   

Our beloved father, Ronnie Chou, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8th, surrounded by his family.

Ron was born in Bombay, India, in 1945.  Soon after, his family moved to Calcutta where they lived for most of his childhood.  Even as a child, he had compassion and cared for those around him with what little he had.  To help support his family, Ron began working at a young age and soon found his love for the sea. He followed in his father’s footsteps working in the engine rooms of transport ships.  His work took him all around the globe, and he would be away from his family for months at a time.  

Ron’s family would soon move to Hong Kong where he would meet his wife Cecilia and they would marry in January of 1974.   Although he had a successful career in Hong Kong, he always planned to immigrate to Canada to give his children a better future.  Leaving his career in Hong Kong behind, he led his family to Vancouver in 1975 and later helped his parents immigrate to Canada.  With few opportunities, he worked wherever he could. After some time, he returned to his love of the sea working for the Highways Ferry in Squamish and later with BC Ferries on Gabriola Island where he would receive his First Class Engineering Certification before retiring.   

Ron loved the quiet and slow paced life of Gabriola Island where he had many wonderful memories and friendships.  He and his wife would later move back to Vancouver so they could spend the rest of his retirement closer to grandchildren.  Ron enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family and friends, giving a helping hand to anyone in need, and cooking curry.  

His presence, sense of humor, and his love for us will be greatly missed.   


It was a real pleasure sharing the many years together. Enjoyed working with you in Squamish and Gabriola. More importantly our continued friendship was treasured and appreciated.

Our 50 years of friendship have been the best years of our lives. Joy, laughter, jokes, curry, fishing, golf, travel, etc., Ronnie have been all these sources. He's always been around to listen and share. Ever so patient and always accommodating. We want to say to Ronnie, Thanks for sharing your friendship, your family and Ceci with us. We're eternally grateful to have experienced this great warmth that's part of your life and now ours.

Ronnie will be deeply missed by our family.  He was generous and always willing to help.  Whenever we were in Vancouver, he was always welcoming and hospitable to us.  We will miss hearing his stories and jokes at the kitchen table, and spending time with him on the golf course.  Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.  May he Rest In Peace.
