It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Adele Fech on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Adele was born on December 18, 1935, in Cicow Poland and passed away in Calgary at the age of 90 years.
At an early age Adele and her family left Poland and moved to near Leipzig in what was then East Germany. It was during this period that she completed her schooling and then trained as a seamstress. In the early 1950s the family left that area, either individually or as couples, taking with them only what they were wearing at the time, and escaped East Germany to West Berlin where they reunited.
In 1953 they left Germany to start a new life in Canada. They sailed from Bremen Germany, landing in Quebec City, from where they took a train across Canada to Raymond, Alberta. The family spent one season working in the sugar beet fields in southern Alberta before moving to Calgary where she lived for her remaining years.
Shortly after settling in Calgary in late 1953, Adele met Erich Fech. In April of 1955 they were married and remained together supporting one another for over 69 years.
Adele is survived by children Rosemarie (Gregory) Fox and Reinhard (Dianne) Fech; grandchildren Christina (Cameron) Turner, and James (Sarah) Fox; great grandchildren Evan Turner, Lauryn Turner, Maya Turner, Alyssa Fox, Makayla Fox; and sister-in-law Elfriede Zippel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Erich; parents Rudolf and Klara Zippel; sister Helen Pilz; brothers Aurthur Zippel and Bernhard Zippel.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 St N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. For those that wish to attend the service virtually, please use the link below the service information.
