Alf was born and raised in the community of Bridgeland, and moved to Banff Trail in his late twenties where he spent most of his life. After graduating from Crescent Heights High School, Alf trained as a radio operator and air gunner for the Royal Canadian Air Force, and was promoted to Sergeant. He worked hard - particularly enjoying his time with London Life and SAIT. Alf met the love of his life, Audrey, at a summer dance in Sylvan Lake. They married June 5, 1953 and enjoyed 52 fabulous years together. Together they raised two daughters, had many long-time friends, and enjoyed summers with family at their Pine Lake cabin. Alf loved to keep busy with curling, fishing, woodworking, bird watching, and tinkering around the yard. He especially loved card games, earning him the nickname ‘Shark’ among friends. He was a dedicated supporter of his family and rarely missed attending sports games, recitals or special gatherings. Alf welcomed everyone unconditionally and was always happy to share a chat over coffee, a crib match or a game of sequence. Alf lived a full, wonderful life admired deeply by his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Alf is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Diane (Chris) and Karen (Jamie), his sister Florence Egger, and his grandchildren, Chris (Lindsay), Lindsey (Dustin), Lisa, Emily (Ross) and Cassandra (Jason). He proudly became great grandpa to Nicholas, Audrey, Tyson, Zachary and Lily. Alf was predeceased by his wife Audrey, his parents Edmund and Edla, and brothers Jalmar and Walter.
A private family interment service will be held at Queen's Park Cemetery followed by a public Celebration of Life held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) for extended family and friends on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
