Alice Kay (Carter) Dennis of Calgary, AB escaped this mortal realm on December 30, 2017, leaving behind 37 cans of flaked ham, 16 packages of fake potatoes, numerous cases of canned soup and vegetables, and multitudes of other random items that would prove helpful in the event of a natural disaster or zombie apocalypse.
Alice is survived by her three daughters Kyra, Kari and Kelly (Patrick) Lutz. She is also survived her three greatest joys, her amazing granddaughters Samantha, Sydney and Jennaya.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, her parents Joseph and Lillian Carter, numerous dogs and two knees.
Alice met the love of her life, Merle, on a blind date. He predicted that night that they would wed. However, Alice did not come to the same conclusion until after the second date. (Her exact words after Merle's declaration was "when hell freezes over!") They were married in August of 1966.
In her younger years, Alice was an accomplished pianist with many record recordings. She volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher at her church and later spend many hours donating her time and talents to various dog clubs and coaching many sports teams, both school and community leagues. (She was an accomplished athlete herself).
She was teaching school at the age of 17 and retired from the Calgary School Board after the birth of her third child to raise her family. When the banks needed to raise the mortgage rates, Alice went back to work. She retired from Trans Alta Utilities after 10 years of begrudging service.
She was a renowned cook, best known for her baking, especially Dad's Cookie Square. We will miss most of her cooking with the exception of split pea soup and Sunday morning wife saver.
She enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were her dogs, teaching obedience and puppy classes, dog shows, man-trailing (with Merle & L.B), Toby Keith, CCR, Garth Brooks, coaching, mentoring, rum & coke, cold beer, Game of Thrones, reading, going to the casino, watching Basketball (Go Zags!), attending the grandkids events and above all else her family.
Alice died knowing that watching The Sound of Music on Christmas Eve and homemade potato soup on Halloween night will continue to be family traditions, that Sam Elliot was the sexiest man alive, that you can put hot sauce on anything and that we will miss her every day!
A Memorial Reception will be held at the Richmond Knob Hill Community Association, (2433 26 Ave S.W.), on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
