Allen (Al) passed away peacefully at Red Deer Regional Hospital at age 73, after bravely battling a lung disease.
Born in Virden, Manitoba, and raised in Rivers, he was proud of his Cree Métis heritage. His family later moved to Calgary, Alberta, where Allen discovered a love for working with his hands and built a life centered on family.
A welder of 40yrs, Allen earned a reputation across Alberta for precision, technical mastery, and uncompromising standards. His career was marked by excellence, integrity, and pride in his craft. Even in retirement, Allen remained active doing what he loved — he spent years driving a rural school bus, bringing joy to every child on his route.
Allen made Calgary home, raised his family in Airdrie, and eventually retired to the family lake home on Gull Lake in Rimbey, Alberta his favorite place to relax and gather with loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Vande Velde); daughters Maxine (Neil) Morrison and Bobbi-Jo (Troy) McElgunn; granddaughters Taylor and Alivia Stapley, Reese Morrison, Tamura (Chris) Talbot, and Ashley McElgunn (Mike Liesemer); and great-grandsons Owen and Beau Talbot. He was predeceased by his parents, Alwyn William and Edna Eileen Pruden (Stremel), as well as brother-in-law Mike (brother-in-law) and Michael (nephew) Horiachka, and many beloved family and friends who went before him.
Allen will be remembered as a devoted loving husband, proud dad, grandpa and great-grandpa; cherished brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend whose quiet strength, generosity, and lively spirit brought laughter and warmth to all who knew him.
