Dear Wilma,
Shocked and very much saddened to hear about Al's passing away.  He was much too young for that yet.
I worked for Al for two years at the beginning of my career, back in the day, the CalPow days.  Great guy to work for.  Will never forget him.  
We drifted apart and didn't have much to do with each other after I left Calgary in 1980, so pretty much lost track of Al and what he was up to.  Except we shared that famous ounce of gold.  You probably heard about that, and that is probably the only reason you might know my name.  
Ah yes, that was a good lesson.
Favourite memory:  I guess I used to pop into Al's office/cubicle too often (I guess) to consult ('cuz I wasn't all that much into just socializing), and Al---always a busy man---was forever trying to get me to return to MY desk and leave him to his duties.  He must have had a favourite saying for me, and I eventually bought a plaque for his wall which captured it: "I like your approach---now let's see your departure!".  
All fond memories, will miss him.

Sorry to hear about Allen.  A few years ago, I discovered he and I were at U of C at the same time.  I wish I had known him then.  In addition to the church, I used to run into him when he had a contract position at BP.  As time went by, it became obvious that Allen and I thought the same way about a lot of things.  Nice guy.  I'll miss him.

Hi Wilma, I know we have not met. Alan and I have worked together for the last 27 years both at TAU and at AltaLink. What a great and gentle guy. Always ready with a smile, a joke, and followed by that great big laugh that was so much a trade mark of Al.

I worked with him, and for him in System Operations, and later he worked in my team. But he was always my friend. 

I am truly sorry I cannot be there on Friday as we are working out of the country but my thought and prayers are with Alan and you.

We are all sad about the loss of a great guy. Through the years of working and curling with Al, I got to know him as a real friend. Over a pitcher of beer after the game Al always wanted to know how my son was doing through the turbulent teenage years. Al knew what raising sons was all about and his sincerty helped me be better at it. We all have great memories, but none more than yours.

We are very grateful for Allen's friendship all those years.  We will miss him greatly but are glad his suffering is over and he is at peace.  May your memories comfort you.  May your faith and the support of family and friends strengthen you as you cope with the loss of your beloved Allen.

my mother emailed me today telling me she had read of Allen's passing. I was saddened to hear of your loss and immediately reminded of your kindness to me both as a child when you were my teacher and when my grandmother passed away.

My dearest Wilma I am saddened to hear of the loss of your dear husband. He was a great man to share you with us in the theater so often. I will hold you in my heart.

So sorry to hear of Al's passing.  I had the pleasure of working with Al at TransAlta on negotiations with the Stoney, and again when he was a consultant to AltaLink's conceptual engineering group.  He always had a relaxed sense of humor that helped others see things around us more realistically.

Allen and Wilma have been my good friends and neighbors for 10 years.  We would visit over the fence and catch up on day to day life.  Allen loved his family and his home which showed in his care for each.  He loved to work with machines and was proud to show me his new creation or purchase.  He was often mystified by the goings on at my place from a very old cranky dog to five little kids to plugged drains and finally to the mysterious misappearance of all his raspberries while he was on vacation.   He was always kind and supportive of my house and life adventures.  I miss him now with sadness in my heart and am grateful to have been his friend.  I have just lovely memories of Allen of good times and laughter and care.

Dear Wilma,  I was shocked and saddened to see that Allen passed away, much too young.  My sympathies go out to you and the family.

Wilma has impacted the Calgary theatre community so tremendously. We know that Allen's support for her was tremendous, and we thank him for sharing her with us. Our hearts and prayers are strongly with the entire Rothbauer family. 

I was lucky enough to have met Allen a couple of times and enjoyed my brief chats with him. His smile was bright and will be missed.

Uncle Allen, I fondly remember the times you would visit us when I was a kid, and you and my dad would wrestle in the front room...and when you let me sit in your lap and drive your Volkswagon Bug...and when we played Monopoly and you would let the kids win...and that time we played ball in front of the house and you twisted your ankle (oops!)...and years later when we would arm-wrestle for $1 (I think we ended up even over the years, didn't we?)...and when you talked me into letting my kids jump into the hot tub at Christmas.
