Alvin passed away in Calgary, Alberta at the Foothills Hospital on April 19, 2019 at the age of 93 Years.
Alvin was born July 6, 1925 in a small south western Saskatchewan village which is no longer viable. Alvin was born to a strongly religious German immigrant family that moved to the new world seeking personal and religious freedoms. Alvin’s early life was strongly influenced by the trials and tribulations of the great depression. During Al’s early life he developed his unique ability to innovate and accomplish life’s tasks with minimal resource allocation. Al met the love of his life working at the industrial factories in Medicine Hat. Al and Emma and were wed June 1, 1948 in Medicine Hat. Al and Emma pursued their lives together in Calgary where Al supported the family doing multiple jobs that included technical crafts, sales, personal real estate management and public services. Al completed his career as a superintendent managing custodial services with the Calgary Board of Education. During retirement Al took the opportunity to pursue his love of constant tinkering which represented his humble beginnings and his strong desire to make life better for all. Al continued to practice his strong faith through his leadership and support of the Center Street Evangelical Church.
Al’s survivors include his daughter Robin, two grandsons, Chase and Brock Robertson and a granddaughter, Randy Manske. Al’s influence to his survivors is reflected and will always be forever remembered by a strong wanderlust and the need to explore and discover the world.
A Memorial Service will be held at Center Street Church, 3900 2 St NE, Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
