After a long and fulfilled life, it is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Anne (Mary Agnes) Fuhrman at the age of 96 years. Anne was born in Jarrow on Tyne, Northumberland, England. She was predeceased by parents Peter and Catherine; as well as her siblings John, Nellie, and Peter. Anne is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Ray; daughters Lynda (Jim) Crittall, and Valerie (Ray) Wasyliw; and son Donald (Susan) Fuhrman. She leaves behind her seven grandchildren Kyla (Jeff), Debbie (Sebastian), Russel (Samantha), Michael (Ivy), Leta (Nathaniel), Gregory (Kristin), and Stephanie (Joe); eight great-grandchildren Henry, Camryn, Ciaran, David, Vienna, Cadence, McKinley, Zachary; four sisters-in-law Dorothy Yeoman, Elsie Wanjoe, Yvonne Fuhrman, and Dot Fuhrman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anne joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) during the beginning of WWll at the age of 19. Her service began in Radio Direction Finding (radar). Soon after she was posted to the Canadian Bomber Squadron 419, The Moose, at Middleton St George where she worked in the spark plug bay that serviced Lancaster bombers. It was here that she met the love of her life, Ray Fuhrman; the beginning of a partnership that lasted more than seven decades. After the war Anne worked in London until she obtained her passage to sail to Canada, and join Ray as his war bride in Netherhill, Saskatchewan. Together they farmed and raised three children. Anne was an active participant in the community serving on the school board, the curling and figure skating committees, the Rebekah's Lodge, the Women's Auxiliary Anglican Church, and the Legion. Anne had a talent for creative writing and was well known for her stories, poems, skits and programs involving community people and events. Retirement years were spent between Mesa, Arizona in the winter, and Kelowna, British Columbia in the summer. She valued her many treasured friendships and memories. Those who knew Anne will remember her for her undeniable spark, wit and humour, and for her eagerness to engage in conversation. Anne was strongly devoted to her beliefs and convictions. Anne lived her final years in Calgary where she and Ray could be closer to family. The family wishes to thank the staff of McKenzie Towne Care Centre for their friendship and compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Anne’s memory directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, (#220, 6223 – 2 Street SE, Calgary, AB T2H 1J5).
